I think it's important to know why you are writing, as well as what specific goals you want to achieve in the near term. For some, they simply want to write. Others crave awards or publication. Still others will only be happy if they are Bestselling Authors. These goals aren't mutually exclusive, but I think it's vital to know what is important to you in any endeavor.

I'm thinking I should probably have posted this on my OWN blog ( www.ink-spells.blogspot.com) first, but here goes:

To leverage my rich background in science, engineering, politics and life, to create compelling stories and characters that pose moral questions to young readers and make them think. To have every story be an improvement in craft. To be a leader and member of a supportive writing community, through blogs, critiques, and social networking. To create a body of work, including novels and short stories, accessible to young readers, to reach the largest number of readers to provide the greatest impact on young lives. Susan Kaye Quinnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07348197999397141067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6075234794886471427.post-82684803900024532052010-01-02T07:19:55.244-08:002010-01-02T07:19:55.244-08:00DUDE!

I cannot tolerate only half-told health stories (which, I'm sad to say, applies to a good chunk of so-called journalism). If you tell half a story about the President's morality you may get him impeached, but at least no one dies. You can easily kill people, or make them ill, if you tell only one side of a health topic. (Depends on the topic, of course.)

Along the same lines, I can't stand sensationalism in journalism, or hardly disguised advertorials (e.g., "On ABC tonight, John Stossel reports on the treasure of Al Capone. World News Tonight has a closer look at who this famed gangster really is...." (or some such thing).

One of my peeves regarding myself is how I always have to struggle to remember when to use it's vs. its. Probably sounds basic to everyone here, but I always have to ask myself if this sentence works with "it is" . (Hey, at least I bother to worry about it! :) )Wendy M: The Healthcare Storytellerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10336656719088578928noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6075234794886471427.post-24013424912274870022009-12-21T20:31:27.505-08:002009-12-21T20:31:27.505-08:00I see your point, Sharon.
